About CAYR Camp

At CAYR Connections, inclusion isn’t just a concept—it’s a culture.

Our summer day camp is built on the belief that every child deserves to be seen, supported, and celebrated for who they are.

By embracing a strengths-based, play-centered approach, we create an environment where children can build confidence and connect with peers in meaningful ways, perfect for...

BELONGING

Our program is neurodiversity-affirming and sensory-supportive, offering flexible accommodations and supports that empower all children to be an active part of the CAYR community.

And we're not just for neurodivergent kids. (Remember, neurodiversity includes neurotypical people, too!)

Our program is for any kid between 5 and 10 years old who wants to spend their summer playing, being outside, and being a part of a progressive, inclusive neurodiverse community.

Our inclusion practices are guided by the principles of Universal Design for Learning (UDL), providing multiple ways to interact, express, and experience the day.

With a low child-to-staff ratio and small group sizes, each camper receives individualized attention, fostering a sense of belonging and empowerment.

While many therapists and educators are involved in this camp, this is not a therapeutic or academic program; our focus is on summer fun, shared joy, creating community and fostering a sense of belonging.

Outdoor adventures, nature walks, creative play, and interest-based activities allow children to follow their curiosity and lead their own experiences.

We also welcome outside therapists and providers to support children during the program, so campers can continue individualized services without missing out on camp activities.

Families are encouraged to engage in the camp community in ways that feel meaningful to them, whether through volunteering, joining activities, or simply supporting their child’s growth. Together, children and families help cultivate a space where belonging is shared and celebrated.

Upcoming Open Houses

We are in the process of designing our ideal space for CAYR Camp.

The empty room you see on your left will look very different the next time you see it.

With over 1600 square feet of space with ample natural light, sensory friendly zones, and lots of room for movement, we will have something for everyone!

For specific information about our summer day camp (schedule, pricing, financial assistance, etc.) please visit the enrollment page.

This summer is more than a camp—it’s the beginning of a larger vision.

This fall, we're opening an inclusive microschool, where the same neurodiversity-affirming, child-centered philosophy will guide a vibrant learning community.

By participating this summer, families are helping lay the foundation for a space where every child’s unique strengths are not only accommodated but valued and celebrated.

At CAYR Connections, our goal is to create more than just a program—it’s a community where children and families feel seen, supported, and empowered.

Through play, connection, and choice, we strive to build a future where belonging is not just a goal but a lived experience for every child.

CAYR Camp FAQs

Q: Where is CAYR Camp located?

A: Our space is located in the RFCC Building at 8020 Madison Street, River Forest, IL 60305.

Q: Is transportation from ESY available?

A: CAYR Camp does not have transportation available this summer, but it's on our list of goals for next summer. We do have a "Carpool" feature on our Playground app, which allows parents and guardians to coordinate carpools with other camp families.

Q: Is there a half day option for Session 2?

A: No, at this time, we do not have a half day option for Session 2. We are offering a half day option for Session 1 due to many children attending ESY in the morning for the beginning of the summer, but it's unlikely we will open up a half day option for the second session.

Q: Can I sign up for part of a session, and pay a prorated portion of the camp tuition?

A: No, you have to enroll and pay for the full session, even if you plan to miss a portion of the session.

Q: Is there financial assistance available?

A: Yes, we have received one grant from the Community Mental Health Board of Oak Park and we are waiting to hear back from several other potential grants that would be used to reduce cost for eligible families. We will be releasing the sliding scales in April -- email us using the form below to let us know you are interested in financial assistance, and you'll be the first to receive the sliding scale information when it's released.
