Who can join?

This group is open to any adult (18+) in the Chicago area who identifies as neurodivergent, which includes people who are officially diagnosed, self-diagnosed, or are still in the "wondering" phase. Chicago Neurodiverse Social Club does not provide programming or events outside the state of Illinois.

Question 2

What if I'm not a resident of Illinois?

Accepted Answer

CNSC only holds events in the state of Illinois. You are welcome to join our Meetup group and attend our in-person events if you are a resident of the states of Illinois, Indiana, or Wisconsin. We will decline your request to join our Meetup group if you don't meet our residency requirements. However, we will occasionally arrange for out of state guests visiting Chicago to attend our events. Please contact us via email if you are interested.

Question 3

What "counts" as neurodivergent?

Accepted Answer

Neurodivergent identities include autism, ADHD, dyslexia and learning disabilities, Tourette's, PTSD, OCD, anxiety, depression, epilepsy, traumatic brain damage, and any other variety of brain difference from the "norm".  This includes many developmental, mental health, or cognitive conditions not listed above.

What’s important is that you consider yourself to fall under the "neurodivergent" umbrella and are seeking connection with people who share this lived experience. We never require members to share specific details around their neurodivergent identity, and we welcome those who don't have official diagnoses, are questioning, or are self diagnosed.

Does it cost money to join?

Accepted Answer

No! Thanks to generous donations from the community, CAYR Connections is able to sponsor the CNSC's operational costs. There are no membership fees and most of our events are free.Some events take place at venues where you will pay for what you order, but others have refreshments provided. Check the event description for more specific information about what to expect for each event.

Question 5

Do you have a Code of Conduct policy?

Yes! We do have a Community Values and Code of Conduct policy. You can download it below, or access the online version at this link. Participation in any activity associated with CNSC constitutes agreement to this policy. You may report potential violations of the code of conduct via https://forms.gle/xsPi19RAxCzAFyFE9 or directly via email to the Steering Committee Chair (Audrey) at cnsc@cayrconnections.org.

Question 6

Do you have any resources for members looking for a therapist or doctor?

Accepted Answer

CNSC does not offer medical, mental health, or any other type of health service. However, we often provide members with two lists which can be helpful if you are looking for a neurodivergent or neuro-affirming therapist or practitioner. We are not responsible for maintaining these lists, and we do not vet or endorse anyone listed on them.
