About the event
Supporting neurodivergent children and teenagers during medical appointments and procedures can feel overwhelming. But with the right tools and strategies, these moments can become opportunities for connection, advocacy, and empowerment for both children and their parents.
Join Alexis Rhodes, Certified Child Life Specialist and Founder of People Medicine LLC, for a hybrid, interactive workshop focused on practical, neuro-affirming strategies that can help parents and caregivers navigate healthcare experiences with confidence.
Brought to you by CAYR Connections in partnership with the Oak Park Public Library, this workshop will explore how to best prepare kids and teens for medical appointments and procedures, identify sensory supports that foster comfort and regulation, and discover pain management strategies for needle-based procedures. You’ll also learn how to collaborate effectively with healthcare providers while encouraging your child to self-advocate, ensuring that their bodily autonomy and unique needs are understood and respected.
